A Splitwise alternative, depending on how you share money.
Updated
If you split IOUs with friends or on trips, you want another split app. Tricount says it is free with no ads and no limits. If you live together and share one pot, We Both fits: it has no balances and no “who owes whom,” so there is nothing to settle.
We Both does not split expenses. Splitwise’s help center says free users can add up to 4 expenses a day.
We Both is for households that share one pot and are tired of settling up, with a shared ledger, bills and budgets and no daily cap on entries.

Two different problems
Splitwise answers “who owes whom.” You add an expense, choose who was part of it, and Splitwise keeps the balances and simplifies debts. That is the right tool when people pay for different things and need to even out.
Many households do not work that way. Everyone pays bills from one account or one pot, and nobody wants to track IOUs at home. That is the case We Both is built for. It records what the house spent, and it never works out who owes anyone.
Which one to pick

| You hit the daily expense cap and just want to keep adding | Tricount for splitting, We Both for a shared ledger |
| You want to split by income | Our free calculator, then log in We Both |

What Splitwise does well
- It is the standard for balances between people. Groups, equal or unequal splits, and simplified debts.
- It handles trips well: many currencies, offline use, recurring expenses.
- It runs on iPhone, Android and the web, so a group does not need the same phone.
- Splitwise says the core is free on iPhone, Android and web.
Why people leave Splitwise
From the 1 and 2 star reviews, here is what reviewers say. They are not our claims. Many point at the daily cap and ads. One wrote that you have to “watch ads in between adding expenses and there’s a limit on how many expenses you can add.” Another wrote that Splitwise will “make you wait 10 seconds to add each expense.” A third called it a “subscription for splitting expenses. LOL.”
If the problem is the cap, another split app solves it. Tricount’s own site says it is free, with no ads and no limits. It supports groups, balances, settling up and multiple currencies, on iPhone and Android. If the problem is that you never wanted to split in the first place, that is where We Both fits.
Who should stay with Splitwise
- You split costs with friends, on trips or between roommates who do not share an account.
- You need exact balances and simplified debts.
- You do not mind the daily cap, or you are fine paying for Pro.
