An AnyList alternative, and why AnyList may be enough.
Updated
For a shared grocery list with recipes and meal planning, AnyList is hard to beat on price: Complete is $9.99 a year for one person or $14.99 a year for a household. Stay with it if that is what you need.
Switch to We Both if you want the list to be part of the house: chores, bills and a calendar in the same app, and “Done shopping” turning the trip into one expense.
We Both keeps shopping lists next to the house’s money, chores and calendar, and logs a finished trip as one expense.

Be honest about what you need
AnyList does one job very well. It is a grocery list, recipe box and meal planner, and the free version already syncs shared lists, sorts items into store categories and works with Siri. We do not have a pile of complaints about it to quote, so this is a question of fit, not escape.
We Both’s list is simpler and is part of something larger. You would switch for the other things: the money, the chores and the calendar, not for a better list.

What AnyList does well
- It is cheap. A whole household is $14.99 a year on Complete.
- Recipes can be imported from websites, blogs and email, and ingredients go to the list in a tap.
- The free tier already sorts items by store category, and Complete adds a meal-planning calendar.
- It runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android, Mac and the web.
Who should stay with AnyList
- You cook from recipes and plan meals. We Both has no recipe box.
- You want the lowest price for a shared list.
- You use an iPad, a Mac or an Apple Watch for your list.
- You only need a list, and nothing else in the house needs organizing.
Who We Both fits
A household that also wants to see what groceries cost. A trip becomes one expense in the shared ledger, so the budget knows. The same app has the bills, the chores and the calendar. The list refreshes every few seconds on everyone’s phone while it is open, and the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island show a shopping trip in progress.
